Puzzle Clash Devlog #001

Howdy folks!

Today I want to show you what I am currently working at.
I want to create a Tetris Attack/Pokemon Puzzle League eske game with Unity. Since there are no patents for this puzzle game I thought I could give it a go and rebuild my favourite puzzle game. So I called it “Puzzle Clash”.

The game itself was planned to be a minigame for my magnus opum: Spiral Town. But for now I plan to make a small demo for everyone to test this game. Depending on feedback I will create a full release either as a standalone (incl. local multiplayer and new modis none of these games had before) or just as the planned minigame for Spiral Town.

To be honest with you: I started the project Spiral Town official in august 2025 and wasted the most part of it by working on Puzzle Clash (or this website).

I continuously misunderstanding that you can and should not mix canvas and sprites together. The results for being so dumb is getting different sprite sizes of every element when streching the picture. That means for you: when you use a 1920×1980 monitor like I do, it should look good but every other format may push your blocks , the score-numbers or something else to a side you don’t want to have.

My work so far:
– title-, menu- and ranking-screen do exist
– first mode: endless mode works up to 80%
– you can save your record into the ranking-screen

My issues right now:
– when saving your game after a game over the record automatically saves but your initials are always “AAA”
– pushing blocks somewhere down does not work every time
– you cannot close the ranking-system when getting from the game over screen to it (but it works from the menu screen)

My plans right now ( only short term plans):
– bugfixes
– change the ugly UI with something pretty (like you šŸ˜‰ )
– adding sound effects and at least one song
– adding controller support
– releasing a demo on itch.io

I will do my best to present you at least one picture for every devlog I am writing. But only when there is something to show. Anyway my game looks like this right now:

As you can see the TIME, COMBO etc are all not aligned. That is because I incorrectly mixed canvas and sprites together.

At least I want to quote my favourite developer quote:

See you around šŸ™‚
